Time Goes By

It is hard to believe just how fast time goes by. A lot has happened since July and my last post. I literally have thousands of pictures that I could post, but I am not going to. I am just trying to find the time to post a few here and there from vacation and the summer.

KIM
Well, in early August, Kim competed in a powerlifting competition in Columbus at The Ohio State Fair. Kim walked away with not only two first place trophies, but set two Ohio State records in the dead lift and bench press for her age and weight class. I will stick a few pix of those up here.

ANTHONY
Anthony is growing up pretty quick. He is a freshmen in high school and doing well. He had a growth spurt in the last year and the voice is starting to deepen. He is doing well. Jen just told me tonight about having to get him fitted for a tux for the homecoming dance. And the fun begins...

VACATION
Well, our vacation was a good one. We spent a few days in Charolette, doing the NASCAR shops and museum. We met Kerry at DEI, saw some cool sites, and had a good time. Got a certified tire off of JR's #8, so Kim is quite pleased.

We then headed down to Hilton Head for a week. Had a blast. Did the typical lay around on the beach all day. Went to Savannah for a Casino Riverboat ride, and hit Beaufort and Parris Island. Boy how they are changing. I have some nice pix from vacation, so I will get them uploaded, oh, by Christmas! Fair enough?

That's it for now, hope everyone is doing well.

Kim new bike

Here is Kim on her new 2007 Harley Davidson Street Bob. She took off the apes, put on drag bars, new exhaust, Stage 1 and race tuner kit, then skulled everything she could. She did good.

First Competition

Kim's first competition. She won 1st place for benching, for her age and weight class. This got the bug started, she competes at the Ohio State Fair in August. Wish her luck!

Our National Championship Game with Dad

It has been a long time since I sat on Daddy's lap, so I took time out from OSU being stomped, to show the old man I still love him!

WOW, time flies!

A lot has happened since the last post. Let me try to catch up.

Anthony has been accepted to and will be attending Elyria Catholic High School next year. He is going to be on the track and cross country teams, marching band, and says he wants to be on the swim team. He is really starting to grow, so hopefully his height issues were just from a late... ...OK, I won't embarrass him. He is doing great and still my lil boy!

Kim is good. She had gotten down to one job, and was pretty happy. But, as usual, she is there to bail out her former employer and help them score an almost perfect on their FAA audit. Good girl. She is doing real well with her training, looks good, feels pretty solid. We have talked her into a bench press competition in April. She is going for the record for her age and weight class.

Me, I'm just working a lot of 12-13 hour shifts, 6 days a week. Hope there is some relief soon. I have school in the evening and Kick Boxing twice a week. I never thought I'd see the day, but Drew was right, and I'm approaching a 400# bench. Not enough to compete at my weight, but enough to satisfy the ego.

Saturday is MARCH 17, St. Patrick's Day! As always, we will be going out to enjoy it, as this is one of the two days I get to let loose each year. So hopefully everybody enjoys it and has a safe one!

I had the bike out yesterday, as we hit 71 degrees. I rode home in the rain. Today, we were in the 70's, had a tornado, and it is now 31 degrees with freezing rain. DAMN, I am so glad I live in Ohio.

Hopefully everybody is well. Talk to you soon.

1000 pound tire flip w/ 3rd World Strongest Man Don Pope

First off, when I heard about the tire flip, like every man with an ego, I had to give it a try. Then, I had friends that doubted I could do it, which meant I absolutely had to do it. My thinking was, if it is a 1000 pound tire, you only really needed to lift 500 pounds, because you were not actually lifting the tire. Not true. It is a lot of weight, and these guys deserve a lot of respect for how hard they train and what they accomplish. It took me several, several tries, and several failures before I actually got it. And when I did, my body has been paying for it for a week now. It is as much technique, form, and training, as it is brute strength.
I want to thank my brothers, dad, wife, friends, and family for coming out to yell at me until I did it. Also, thanks to Don for pushing me to make me do it, and to his friends for the advice and motivation to keep me trying. I guess I might as well throw a plug in for Avon Lake McCarthy's and Budweiser as well. And like I said, these strong men deserve a lot more respect than what they get, they train harder than many athletes making millions of dollars per year. Lastly, and probably most importantly, GOOD LUCK TO DON POPE! BEFORE IT IS ALL SAID AND DONE, YOU WILL BE THE WORLD'S STRONGEST MAN!
1000 pound tire flip, "Get 'er done!"

Ohh, push it, get it, 1/2 way there.

ERR, Grunt, groan, finally got her!

The Gym

Wanted to give credit to the new gym. Kim is still going, but has a personal trainer now. She is doing really well and is actually motivated to go to the gym. Drew, the owner is great, a 68 year young man, that still owns world records for powerlifting, and a wealth of knowledge. I learn something new everyday. In the left picture, right side of Drew, is Don Pope. He placed 3rd in this year's World's Stongest Man, which will air around Christmas. The picture does no justice, as he is a monster of a man at 6'4" and 330#. He is a personable guy, as is everybody from Competitive Edge. Please, look up the gym, Don Pope, World's Strongest Man, etc. This is truly a great place to work out. http://www.competitiveedgeofavonlake.com/
